11 different trims

The Dodge Ram 1500 2017 comes in a total of eleven trims: Limited, Laramie Longhorn, Laramie, Rebel, Sport, Lone Star, HFE, Tradesman, Big Horn and Express. The more features in a trim, the higher the price usually goes. Trim package details vary by type. For example, the Tradesman has a 3.6L V6 engine with an optional V8 available, a trailer sway control, a spray-in bed liner and a RamBox Cargo Management System, while the Sport has halogen projector headlamps with a blackout look, LED lighting for the interior, a 10-way power seat for the driver and power-adjustable pedals. The Laramie, which is a more expensive trim, has heated and ventilated front seats, 20-inch aluminum wheels that are clad in chrome, and dual-zone automatic temperature control. Compare the features of each package to decide which type of 2017 Dodge Ram truck is right for you. Note that you may be able to add some features from one package to another for an additional fee, so don't be afraid to ask if it's possible if the features you want span more than one trim. Mixing and matching options may just be the perfect way to get your ideal truck.

2017 Ram truck 1500 Laramie Longhorn has new features

This year, some features are being added to the Laramie Longhorn trim in the 1500 series of 2017 Dodge trucks. If you get this trim on a 2017 model, you'll now receive Keyless Go entry, rain-sensing wipers and LED lighting in the truck bed. With Keyless Go, you can unlock and lock your truck without needing a physical key to do it. LED lighting in the truck bed allows you to see into that area of your 2017 Ram truck even when it's pitch black outside, and it's becoming a trendy accent for trucks in general. Rain-sensing wipers use special technology that is able to detect when moisture is hitting the windshield, which in turn will start the wipers automatically as soon as you need them. This is both convenient and cuts down on distractions while you're driving.

The Ram Rebel trim is getting a boost

The Ram Rebel trim is getting a boost

Already known as a bold trim on 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 models, the Ram Rebel package is getting some new features, too. These new touches are designed to add a little luxury to the aggressive model and include a rearview backup camera, a remote start system, rear park assistance and an 8.4-inch touchscreen with U-Connect. These models will also have taillights and headlights with black light bezels, something that has become quite popular over the last few years. The U-Connect system offers access to every element of the truck, including climate control, and it also offers GPS navigation, music, Bluetooth connectivity and more. New to the trim this year, in addition to the features previously covered, is automatic temperature control, an alarm system, limited-slip differential, and a gauge cluster that is premium and comes with a 7-inch display in the center.

Check out the Dodge trucks "Blackout" Package

This year, the 1500 series will have a special package known as the "Night Edition." Trucks with this package will have a dark, sharp look that is inspired by factories and reminiscent of the Black Express package that was previously offered in this series. In this package, you'll find plenty of blacked-out details on the truck, including all-black badging, rims and grille. As with the Rebel Ram trim, trucks in this package will feature taillights and headlights with black light bezels. These special models tend to be very popular, so if you think the Night Edition is the look you want, don't wait too long to visit your local dealership.

Other trim changes to note

Other trim changes to note

While the Ram Rebel and Laramie Longhorn trims have the most changes of any Dodge Ram 1500 2017 packages this year, there are changes coming to the Sport and Bighorn as well. The Sport will now come with an alarm and the handy remote start, both of which were absent in previous models. Meanwhile, the Bighorn is adding automatic temperature control to ensure your drive is exactly how you want it to be. Your 2017 Dodge Ram truck should be the ride of your dreams, so when you're looking at the different models available, keep the trim additions in mind as you weigh your options.

Price changes are in action

Of course, there have been price changes to the new lineup in the 1500 series, and they vary widely by model. In many cases, the price changes are minimal or even to your benefit. For example, a base Tradesman with two-wheel drive and a regular cab is now $150 more on average, but the quad-cab, four-wheel drive SLT models have seen a price drop of about $410. The two-wheel drive, crew cab and short-bed Laramie models have increased by $285 in price, and the four-wheel drive, crew cab and long-bed Longhorn trucks are up $430. Naturally, given all the wonderful features that have been added to the Rebel, there are some price changes there as well. A four-wheel drive model is now about $1,895 more, while the two-wheel drive version went up $1,725. Bear in mind that you may be able to grab special deals or promotions on the trim or optional features you want for your 1500 series Ram truck this year, so keep an eye out for sales near you. You may end up saving money on this year's model even if your desired package originally went up.
